Manage all transportation staff (drivers, payroll, dispatch, admin, and maintenance) for SouthWest division.
Responsible for the preventative maintenance and repair to all transportation equipment, ensuring that the cost meets budget limits.
Operate fleet in compliance with all federal and state DOT regulations as well as SDI/OmniSource safety rules and regulations.
Strive for excellent customer service and support through dispatching to ensure prompt service to customer locations as well as order fulfillment to end users.
Communicate effectively and foster a positive working relationship with other internal departments (i.e. Marketing and Operations).
Negotiate 3rd party freight rates.
Manage utilization, i.e. reviewing rates on regular basis, monitoring driver performance, efficiency, etc.
Verify payroll for accuracy.
Other projects as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
College degree in business / logistics or five years of experience operating a medium size fleet. The five years must include at least half of that time in a managerial role for that fleet.
Strong working knowledge of federal and state DOT laws and regulations
Proven knowledge of transportation equipment operation and routing
Excellent problem solving skills, with ability to resolve in the safest and most effective manner
Experience managing in a union environment is preferred, but not required
Intermediate level experience with Micro Soft Office products
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Proven ability to be organized with excellent time management skills

Previous experience with SAI, Carrierweb and OTM software
