Overview

 

The Structured Training Entrance Program (STEP) is a dynamic, hands-on training program aimed at preparing the next generation of Omni and Steel Dynamics leaders. You will experience the full cycle of the metals business with a focus on Operations, Commercial Buying (Procurement), and Sales; learning how each of these business segments operate together to provide our customers with outstanding products and service. The training program typically lasts 7-8 months. On successful completion, Trainees are placed in roles in operations or commercial functions across Omni or Steel Dynamics as positions become available.

Responsibilities

  • Actively engage in the learning process covering a variety of topics. Some examples of potential topics include:
    • Scrap metal sourcing and processing
    • Ferrous and non-ferrous material identification
    • Steel mill operations and downstream processing (for Steel Dynamics STEP Trainees)
    • Sales and customer relationship management
  • Shadow experienced team members across departments (operations, procurement, sales, etc.) and gain hands-on experience.
  • Complete weekly logs of activities completed throughout the week and participate in weekly touch-base with program manager.
  • Participate in internal training classes as directed.
  • Demonstrate growth in knowledge, initiative, and leadership potential throughout the program.
  • Network with internal and external customers.
  • Follow all company protocols and policies regarding safety, including wearing all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelors degree in a related field
  • Willing to travel for extended periods of time
  • Willing to work in an industrial/hands-on environment (outdoors and around heavy equipment)
  • Experience utilizing Microsoft Office Suite: Outlook, Excel, Work, PowerPoint
  • Eagerness to learn, strong work ethic, and commitment to personal and professional growth
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Willing to follow all safety regulations and advocate safety culture

 

Preferred

  • Willing to relocate upon completion of the program
