Overview

We are seeking a skilled Industrial Electrician to join our maintenance team. This position is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and improving electrical and control systems throughout a high-volume industrial processing facility.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on problem solver who can diagnose electrical problems efficiently, work safely around high-voltage equipment, and take ownership of equipment reliability.

Responsibilities

What We're Looking For

We are looking for an electrician who:

  • Can troubleshoot instead of simply replacing parts.
  • Takes ownership of equipment problems from diagnosis through repair.
  • Understands the difference between a temporary fix and a permanent corrective action.
  • Is comfortable working independently without constant supervision.
  • Communicates clearly with operators, maintenance personnel, and management.
  • Takes safety seriously and follows proper electrical safety and LOTO procedures.
  • Is willing to learn new equipment and technologies.
  • Looks for ways to improve equipment reliability and reduce downtime.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Troubleshoot and repair 480V three-phase electrical systems, motor circuits, control circuits, and distribution equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair AC and DC motors, VFDs, motor starters, contactors, overloads, and control transformers.
  • Troubleshoot PLC-controlled equipment, sensors, proximity switches, photoeyes, encoders, and other industrial instrumentation.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and equipment documentation.
  • Troubleshoot industrial control systems and communicate effectively with operations and maintenance personnel.
  • Perform preventive and predictive electrical maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot and repair conveyor systems, shredders, sorting equipment, pumps, fans, magnets, and other industrial machinery.
  • Install and modify electrical components, conduit, wiring, control panels, disconnects, and motor circuits.
  • Use electrical test equipment including multimeters, clamp meters, megohmmeters, and other diagnostic equipment.
  • Identify recurring equipment failures and recommend permanent corrective actions.
  • Assist with equipment installations, upgrades, and continuous-improvement projects.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and document repairs.
  • Follow all company safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and electrical safety requirements.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and minimize production downtime.
  • Work effectively in a dusty, heavy-industrial environment with exposure to noise, vibration, heat, and moving equipment.

Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to:

  • Stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Lift and carry electrical components and tools.
  • Work in confined spaces and elevated areas when required.
  • Climb ladders and stairs.
  • Work in environments with dust, heat, noise, vibration, and industrial machinery.
  • Wear required PPE, including safety glasses, hearing protection, safety footwear, gloves, and arc-rated electrical PPE as required.

Steel Dynamics, Inc., and all affiliated entities are equal opportunity employers.

Qualifications

  • Journeyman Electrician license or industrial electrical certification.
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs and PowerFlex VFDs.
  • Experience with Schneider, ABB, or other industrial drives.
  • Experience troubleshooting PLC I/O, Ethernet/IP, control networks, and industrial instrumentation.
  • Experience in recycling, automotive, manufacturing, material handling, shredding, or heavy industrial processing.
  • Experience with preventive maintenance programs and CMMS systems.
  • Welding/mechanical repair experience is a plus.
